What to buy, in order

  1. A rack, from £496. Everything else in a strength gym is arranged around it. A half rack with safety bars is the cheapest way to squat and bench safely on your own; a four-post power rack from £855 catches the bar on both sides.
  2. A bar and plates, from £162 and £672. A 150kg bumper set is £4.48 per kg and enough for years.
  3. A bench, from £356. Adjustable rather than flat if you are only buying one.
  4. Storage, from £17. Rack-mounted horns keep plates off the floor and add stability to the frame.
  5. Then expand through attachments, not new machines. A cable pulley column, jammer arms, dip bars or a multi-grip pull-up bar bolted to the rack you own costs a fraction of a separate machine and takes no extra floor space.

Free weights or machines?

  • Free weights (rack, bar, plates, dumbbells) — the most training per pound spent and per square metre used, and the widest range of movement. Requires you to learn the lifts and, ideally, to have safeties.
  • Selectorised machines — pin selection, enclosed stacks, nothing loose. The right answer for commercial floors, hotels, apartment gyms, clinics and anywhere unsupervised.
  • Plate-loaded machines — a free-weight strength curve on a fixed path, with no weight ceiling. Suits strength and performance facilities that already own plates.
  • Cable machines — constant tension through the whole range, loading at any angle, and self-spotting. The best complement to a rack for anyone training alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs – Strength Equipment Collection

What types of strength equipment do you offer?

Our strength equipment collection includes dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, power racks, weight benches, cable machines, weight plates, multigyms, and strength accessories — everything you need for complete strength training at home or in a commercial gym.

Is your strength equipment suitable for home gyms?

Yes, we offer compact, space-efficient strength training equipment perfect for home gyms. From adjustable dumbbells to foldable squat racks and all-in-one cable machines, our products are designed for performance in small spaces.

What brands of strength equipment do you stock?

We carry top-rated strength equipment from trusted brands like Jordan Fitness, MYO Strength, Attack Fitness, Nautilus, and Star Trac — all known for their commercial-grade durability and ergonomic design.

What’s the difference between free weights and machines?

Free weights like dumbbells, barbells, and weight plates offer a full range of motion and engage stabilising muscles. Strength machines like cable systems and selectorised machines provide guided movement, ideal for isolating muscle groups and reducing injury risk.

Can I use your strength equipment in a commercial gym?

Absolutely. Most of our strength training equipment is commercial-grade, designed for daily use in gyms, fitness studios, and sports performance centres. They offer high durability, superior load capacity, and user-friendly design.

Do you offer multigym or all-in-one strength machines?

Yes. Our multigyms and functional trainers combine multiple exercises into a single unit, saving space while offering a full-body workout. These machines are ideal for both home and commercial gym setups.

How do I choose the best strength equipment for my goals?

Consider your fitness goals, training style, space, and budget. For general strength training, start with a rack, barbell, bench, and plates. For isolation or rehab, cable machines or selectorised equipment may be better suited.

What are the benefits of strength training?

Strength training improves muscle mass, bone density, joint health, and metabolism. It supports weight loss, enhances athletic performance, and helps prevent injury — making it a key part of any fitness routine.

Do you offer strength equipment bundles?

Yes. We offer strength equipment packages that include everything you need to get started — such as a squat rack, adjustable bench, barbell set, and plates — at great value.

Can I get help selecting the right strength equipment?

Definitely. The Pro Gym Essentials team is here to guide you in choosing the best strength training equipment for your space, needs, and fitness level. Contact us for personalised support.
