The JL is fixed at the standard 40° climbing angle. The JLX adds angle adjustment, which changes the difficulty independently of your speed. One person training alone does not need it. A facility, a mixed-ability group or rehabilitation work does — that adjustment is the whole point of the machine in those settings.
Both need less ceiling height than a stepmill, because you climb at an angle rather than standing on a raised step. In a garage or basement that is often what decides it. Both are quoted per site — request a quote.
