Velcro or lace-up — the £14 question

• Velcro (£68) — you can put them on and take them off yourself. If you train alone on a bag, this is the only sensible choice. Slightly less precise fit around the wrist.
• Lace up (£82) — a tighter, more even wrap around the wrist, which is why they are standard for sparring and competition. You need someone else to tie them.

Glove weight

Glove weight is measured in ounces and is about protection, not difficulty. As a general guide: 12oz for bag and pad work, 14oz or 16oz for sparring, with heavier gloves giving both you and your partner more padding. If you are buying one pair to do everything, most people are best served in the middle of that range.

Wrap your hands

Gloves protect the person you hit. Hand wraps protect the small bones and joints in your own hand, and no glove substitutes for them. If you are buying your first pair of gloves, buy wraps at the same time.

Pads

The AirPro Hook and Jab Pads at £84 a pair are for partner work — one person holds, the other works combinations. Pads develop accuracy, timing and reaction in a way bag work cannot, because the target moves. If nobody is available to hold pads for you, a bag and a speed ball from our Boxing collection cover the same ground on your own.

Delivery

Free UK delivery on all orders of £250 or more. Gloves and pads individually fall below that, attracting a flat £20 delivery charge — worth ordering alongside a bag, bracket or chains. Dispatch within 5 working days, tracking emailed within 24 hours of dispatch.
