The combined apparatus most people overlook
The 62CR Cadillac Reformer covers both the reformer and the Cadillac repertoire on a single frame, in roughly half the floor area of two separate apparatus. If your plan involves both and the room is tight, look at the combined unit before specifying the pair.
Where two people need to work at the same time, a separate reformer and Cadillac remain the better fit.
What each apparatus does
- Reformer — a carriage that slides on rails against spring resistance, with a footbar, straps and headrest. It is the apparatus Pilates is built around: supported, progressive resistance in lying, seated, kneeling and standing positions, and the piece to buy first if you are buying one.
- Convertible Tower — a vertical frame with springs at multiple heights, converting between tower work and mat work. Gives you a large part of the Cadillac repertoire in a fraction of the footprint.
- Chair — a pedal against spring resistance. The most demanding apparatus for its size, heavily used for standing and single-leg work, and the smallest thing here by floor area.
- Cadillac Trapeze — a full four-post table with push-through bar, trapeze, springs and loops. The widest range of supported positions of any apparatus, which is why it dominates rehabilitation and one-to-one work.
- Cadillac Reformer — both of the above on a single frame.
Planning your space
A reformer needs clear length for the carriage travel plus room to stand at both ends, and enough width to work with straps out to the sides. The Cadillac apparatus is taller and needs headroom for the trapeze.
