Weight tree or rack-mounted horns?
- Weight tree — a free-standing post you can put anywhere, including next to a bench or a platform where there is no rack. The JORDAN Olympic Weight Tree at £228 is the lowest-cost way to get plates off the floor.
- Rack-mounted horns — bolt onto the rack you already own. They cost you no extra floor space at all, they put the plates within arm’s reach of the bar, and the weight adds mass to the frame, which makes the rack noticeably more stable under a heavy set. If you own a compatible rack, this is the better buy.
Check which horns fit your rack. The free-standing and fixed power rack versions are different parts and are not interchangeable, and the HELIX Power Rack (LTR) horns at £278 fit the LTR frames only.
Why plate storage is not optional
Plates left on the floor are the single most common cause of injury in a home gym, and stacking them flat means lifting from the floor every time you change weight. A tree or a set of horns puts every plate at hip height, in order, where you can see what you are picking up.
