Why rubber-lined shelves matter in a shared room
Noise, mostly. A cast-iron bell returned onto bare steel is loud enough to carry through a wall, which is a real problem in a hotel gym, a studio next to a treatment room or a garage attached to the house. The lining also stops the chrome and neoprene finishes scuffing on every re-rack.
