Rubber flooring protects a floor. A lifting platform protects the floor, the bar and the plates when a loaded barbell comes down hard. Jordan Fitness makes both, and the right choice depends on whether you drop the bar and how much room you have.
The short answer: if you deadlift, clean or snatch and let the bar drop, buy a platform: the JORDAN J75 Weight Lifting Platform - 60mm (£1,139.99) for most home and commercial strength areas, or the UK-made, oak-centred JORDAN Olympic Lifting Platform (£1,914) for a dedicated lifting station. If you lower the bar under control, JORDAN ACTIV Gym Flooring (Interlocking Tiles) from £56.50 per square metre, in 15mm or 20mm, is enough. Use the 6mm JORDAN Rubber Roll Flooring (£576 for 12.5m²) for cardio, machine and walkway areas.
Key takeaways
You need a platform if you drop a loaded bar. If every rep is lowered under control, good rubber flooring is enough.
Rubber absorbs impact so the slab, screed or timber underneath survives. It does not give the bar a hard, level surface to land on, and bumper plates landing unevenly take the impact through their inserts. A platform puts a hard timber centre under your feet and rubber under the plates, the arrangement most lifting platforms use.
A simple test: if you train Olympic lifts, heavy deadlifts you drop from the top, or let a class drop bars at the end of a set, plan a platform. If you squat and bench inside a rack and never drop, choose tiles and spend the difference on the rack or bar.
For most buyers, the J75 platform. It is the lowest-cost complete platform we sell per square metre, it is commercially rated, and at 102kg it is far easier to get into a garage than the 283kg Olympic platform.
| JORDAN platform | Price | Size (L × W × H) | Lifting surface | Weight | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| J75 Weight Lifting Platform - 60mm | £1,139.99 | 1,800 × 3,010 × 60mm | 60mm bamboo, rubber mats each side | 102kg | Home strength rooms and commercial floors |
| Olympic Lifting Platform | £1,914 | 2,440 × 2,000 × 60mm | Solid oak centre, rubber tiles each side | 283kg | Dedicated lifting stations, clubs, schools |
| Integrated Olympic Weight Lifting Platform Centre 2 x 1 m | £678 | 2,000 × 1,000 × 30mm centre | Solid oak | Ask us | Building a lifting area into a rubber-tiled floor |
Sizes and weights are from Jordan Fitness's product pages for the J75 platform and the Olympic Lifting Platform. Prices are from our live catalogue.
Per square metre, the J75 works out at about £210 and the Olympic platform at about £392. The Olympic platform's extra cost buys a UK-made, solid oak centre in a heavy steel frame, and Jordan offers to customise it with your gym's branding.

A 60mm bamboo lifting surface with shock-absorbing rubber mats on each side, held in a 30 × 60 × 2mm box steel frame. Jordan describes it as commercially rated and suitable for large gyms as well as homes.
Jordan lists the platform at 3,010mm wide, 1,800mm long and 60mm high, weighing 102kg. It ships boxed as one crate, 1,790 × 1,050 × 450mm and 159kg, and needs user assembly with 36mm and 10mm sockets and spanners, which are not included (Jordan Fitness).
Jordan's warranty is lifetime on the metal frame and 1 year on other components. Jordan pictures the platform with a J75 T-Rack, sold separately; if you want a rack on or beside the platform, ask us to check your rack's footprint against it before ordering.
If you want a permanent, branded lifting station, yes. For a garage where the platform may move one day, the J75 is the more practical buy.
Jordan makes the Olympic Lifting Platform in the UK. It has a solid oak centre flanked by thick rubber tiles and encapsulated in a heavy-duty steel frame, measures 2,440mm long, 2,000mm wide and 60mm high, and weighs 283kg (Jordan Fitness). Jordan also offers laser-etched logos and other customisation.
That weight is the main practical issue. A 283kg item needs a clear access route and enough hands to move it into place. Jordan quotes a lead time of 4–6 weeks if it is not in stock, so order ahead of a fit-out date.
It is the route to a lifting area built into a rubber floor rather than a separate platform sitting on top. Jordan describes its 2 × 1m and 1.5 × 1m centres as wooden lifting centres, 30mm thick, made to integrate within rubber gym flooring tiles.
We sell the 2 × 1m solid oak centre at £678. Because it is designed to sit flush within the surrounding rubber, the tiles around it need to suit its 30mm thickness. Ask us to confirm exactly what is supplied with the centre, and which surround tiles to pair with it, before you order.

More than its footprint. Allow room to walk on and off, to load plates at each end of the bar, and for an Olympic bar, about 2.2m long, to overhang the platform.
| Platform | Footprint | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Integrated Platform Centre (2 × 1m) | 2,000 × 1,000mm | 2.0m² |
| Olympic Lifting Platform | 2,440 × 2,000mm | 4.9m² |
| J75 Weight Lifting Platform | 3,010 × 1,800mm | 5.4m² |
| IWF competition platform | 4,000 × 4,000mm, plus 1m clear area | 16m² (36m² with clearance) |
The International Weightlifting Federation requires a competition platform to be square, level, four metres on each side and no higher than 150mm, with a flat, obstacle-free 1m area around it (IWF). Training platforms are smaller, but the clear area is still a good rule: keep walls, mirrors and other kit well away from the bar's path.
Check the access route as well as the room. The J75's crate is 1,790mm long, and a 283kg Olympic platform needs a level path to its final position.
Thick interlocking tiles around the lifting area, thinner rubber elsewhere. Match the thickness to what lands on each part of the floor.
| JORDAN flooring | Thickness | Price | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACTIV Gym Flooring (Interlocking Tiles) | 20mm | £82.37 per m² tile | Racks, dumbbell areas, around platforms |
| ACTIV Gym Flooring (Interlocking Tiles) | 15mm | £69.86 per m² tile | Benches, machines, general strength |
| ACTIV Gym Flooring (Interlocking Tiles) | 10mm | £56.50 per m² tile | Studios, stretching, cardio zones |
| Rubber Roll Flooring | 6mm | £576 per 12.5m² roll (£46.08/m²) | Walkways, cardio and machine areas |
Jordan describes ACTIV tiles as interlocking rubber flooring ideal for free-weight and general fitness areas and for reducing noise and vibration. Each tile is 100 × 100cm, carries a 5-year commercial warranty and is fire-tested to classification EN13501-1:E (Jordan Fitness). Edge and corner tiles cost a little more and finish any side that meets open floor rather than a wall.

Because slips, trips and falls are the most common kind of workplace injury. HSE figures show slips, trips or falls on the same level caused 30% of non-fatal injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR in 2024/25, and handling, lifting or carrying a further 17% (HSE).
HSE guidance says a workplace floor must be suitable for the type of work activity taking place on it and kept free from obstructions (HSE). In a gym, that means the right thickness under heavy kit, finished edges where tiles meet open floor, and platforms where bars are dropped.
At home the law does not apply in the same way, but the logic does: a level, well-finished floor keeps a heavy lift safer for anyone in the room.
Standard UK delivery is £20 on orders below £250, and free on orders of £250 or more. Every platform and flooring product in this guide costs £250 or more, or reaches it in any realistic order, so ships free. We deliver to UK mainland only and do not deliver to Northern Ireland.
Once your order is confirmed as in stock, it is normally dispatched within 5 working days, with tracking emailed within 24 hours of dispatch, and delivered by our delivery partners. Platforms are large, heavy items, so check doorways and the route to the room before ordering.
You can choose courier delivery and assemble it yourself, pre-assembled delivery, or full installation arranged on site, quoted separately before you order.

Shop gym flooring →Call 0333 880 3211Can I put a lifting platform on a suspended timber floor? Ask before you order. A platform spreads a dropped bar's impact, but the floor structure decides what is safe, and a 283kg Olympic platform plus a loaded bar is a lot of weight on joists. For upstairs rooms, check with a structural engineer or your landlord first, and tell us the floor type so we can advise.
Will a platform stop noise from dropped weights? It reduces impact noise but does not remove it. Rubber either side of the centre absorbs much of the plates' impact, yet heavy drops still carry through concrete and timber. In a flat or a shared building, lower the bar rather than dropping it, even on a platform.
Can I use 6mm rubber roll under a deadlift area? It is not designed for dropped bars. At 6mm it protects against wear and light impact. Under a deadlift area use 15mm or 20mm ACTIV tiles at minimum, or a platform if you drop the bar.
Does a rack sit on the J75 platform? Jordan pictures the J75 platform with a J75 T-Rack, which is sold separately, but its page does not list rack compatibility. Send us your rack model and we'll check the footprint before you order. Our Jordan HELIX vs J75 guide compares the two rack systems.
Do I need bumper plates on a platform? Yes, if you drop the bar. A platform protects the floor and the bar, but cast-iron plates are not made to be dropped. Rubber bumper plates are; our Jordan weight plates guide explains the options.
How many ACTIV tiles do I need? One per square metre, because each tile is 1m × 1m. Measure the area, round up to whole metres, and use edge and corner tiles on any side that meets open floor rather than a wall. A 4m × 3m area takes 12 tiles.
Start with how you lift. If you drop the bar, buy a platform first and tile around it; the J75 suits most rooms and the Olympic platform suits a permanent station. If you never drop, put 15mm or 20mm ACTIV tiles under the rack and 6mm roll everywhere else.
