Home Multi Gym UK (2026): Which Multi Gym Should You Buy?

A home multi gym is a single frame that combines several weight-training stations, usually a pulldown, a row, presses and cable pulleys, around one or more selectorised weight stacks. You change the load by moving a pin, so it suits anyone who wants full-body resistance training without loading plates or learning barbell technique.

The short answer: for one or two people training at home, choose a single-frame multi gym with dual stacks, such as the MYO Strength Multi Gym (£4,290, supplied with 100kg of bumper plates). If several people will train at once, or the room doubles as a private studio, a three-stack machine such as the MYO Strength 3 Stack Multi Gym (£5,160) lets three users work at the same time. Before ordering, check the footprint plus clearance, your ceiling height, the floor and the route in.

Key takeaways

  • A multi gym trades barbell freedom for convenience and safety. Every station is guided and loaded with a pin, so you can train hard alone without a spotter.
  • Machines and free weights build muscle equally well. A 2023 meta-analysis of 13 studies and 1,016 participants found no difference in muscle growth between the two.
  • Plan the room, not just the machine. Sport England's design guidance allows circulation space of 1.75 times a resistance machine's footprint.
  • Stations matter more than stack weight for most home users. Count the movements you will actually use: pulldown, row, chest press, shoulder press and leg work.
  • Shared and studio use changes the specification. ISO 20957-1 classes equipment for domestic use separately from equipment for clubs, studios and similar facilities.

What is a home multi gym?

It is a weight machine that puts several exercises on one frame. Cables run from a weight stack over pulleys to handles, bars or pads, and each station trains a different movement pattern.

Most models cover a lat pulldown, a low row, a chest press and a cable station. Larger machines add a shoulder press, leg extension and leg curl, and some take a leg press add-on.

NHS guidance asks adults to do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups on at least 2 days a week, and a multi gym covers every one of them from a single frame.

Which type of multi gym for home is right for you?

The right multi gym for home use depends on how many people train at once and whether you also want a bar. This table compares the options we sell.

Type Example at PGE Users at once Best for Price
Single frame, dual stacks plus Smith station MYO Strength Multi Gym with 100kg of bumper plates 1–2 Home gyms that want cables and a guided bar in one frame £4,290
Three-stack selectorised multi gym MYO Strength 3 Stack Multi Gym Up to 3 Large home gyms, families, private studios £5,160 (£6,310 with leg press add-on)
Commercial multi-station Attack Fitness 4, 5 and 8 Station; Nautilus 4, 5 and 9 Station 4–8 Studios, clubs, schools and workplace gyms £6,670 – £14,120 (Attack); Nautilus price on request
Alternative: dual adjustable pulley MYO Strength Dual Adjustable Pulley 1–2 Cable training only, smaller rooms £2,320

If you lift with a barbell already, a cable machine may be the better addition than a full multi gym. Our cable machine guide compares dual pulleys and cable racks, and our guide to home gym packages weighs a multi gym against a bundle or a piece-by-piece build.

Is a multi gym as good as free weights?

For building muscle, yes. A systematic review and meta-analysis by Haugen and colleagues, published in BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2023, pooled 13 studies with 1,016 participants and found no difference in muscle growth between free-weight and machine training.

Strength gains were specific to the method trained, so the authors concluded the choice can come down to preference and goals.

For someone training alone, the guided path removes the need for a spotter. If you also want to squat and deadlift heavy, a rack is still the tool for that: see our best power rack guide.

How many stations does a home multi gym need?

Count the movements you will use every week rather than the number printed on the box. A useful setup covers a vertical pull, a horizontal pull, a press and a cable station at minimum.

  • Upper body plus a guided bar: the MYO Strength Multi Gym has pulldown and row stations, dual adjustable pulleys and a 3D Smith station, whose bar moves forwards and back as well as up and down for a more natural pressing and squatting path.
  • Full body, selectorised: the MYO Strength 3 Stack Multi Gym runs lat pulldown, low row, triceps, leg extension, leg curl, shoulder press and incline chest press from three stacks.
  • Compound leg work: the MYO Strength 3 Stack Multi Gym (Leg Press Add On), at £1,150, bolts onto the same frame for leg press and calf raises.

How much weight stack do you need on a multi gym?

Enough to keep progressing on your strongest pulling movement, which is usually the lat pulldown or row.

The MYO Strength Multi Gym is listed with dual 105kg stacks, and it also takes plates on its Smith station and landmine attachment. That is why it ships with 100kg of Olympic bumper plates: the bar work is not limited by the stacks.

How much space does a home multi gym need?

More than the frame itself. Sport England's Fitness and Exercise Spaces design guidance allows circulation space of 1.75 times a resistance machine's footprint, covering the area around the machine and the aisle to reach it.

Check these five things before you order:

  1. Footprint plus clearance: take the length and width from the Specification tab on the product page, then add room to sit, stand and swing a bar or handle.
  2. Ceiling: the pulldown tower and any pull-up bar need headroom. The same guidance recommends gym ceilings of no lower than 2.7m; many UK homes are lower, so measure under beams and lights.
  3. Floor: a multi gym with full stacks is heavy and concentrated. A ground-floor slab is ideal; have an upper or suspended floor checked first.
  4. Flooring: rubber tiles protect the floor and stop the frame creeping; see our gym flooring guide.
  5. Access: doorways, stairs and turns between the drive and the room. Multi gyms arrive in sections, but the largest parts still need a clear route.

Which multi gym should you buy from Pro Gym Essentials?

  • Buy the MYO Strength Multi Gym if one or two people train together and you want cables, a 3D Smith station and a landmine in one frame. The included 100kg of bumper plates means it is trainable the day it arrives.
  • Buy the MYO Strength 3 Stack Multi Gym if up to three people need to train at the same time, or you want selectorised leg extension and leg curl. Add the leg press at the same time if you want it at all; together they cost £6,310.
  • Choose a dual adjustable pulley instead if you already own a rack and bar and only need cable work.

See every machine in our multi gym collection, or compare cable-only options in cable machines.

What if the multi gym is for a studio, club or shared space?

Specify it as commercial equipment. ISO 20957-1:2024, the general safety standard for stationary training equipment, classes equipment for domestic use separately from equipment for training areas in clubs, schools, hotels and similar facilities. Ask which class a machine is built for.

Once staff or members use it, it is also work equipment. The HSE's guidance on inspection of work equipment says equipment whose safety depends on installation should be inspected after installation and before first use, with results recorded.

For four to eight users at once, the Attack Fitness 4 Station Lat Pull/Low Row/Tricep (£6,670), Attack Fitness 5 Station (£10,060) and Attack Fitness 8 Station (£14,120) put multiple stations on one frame. Nautilus multi-stations are priced on request. Our commercial gym equipment list and selectorised vs plate-loaded guide cover the wider fit-out.

Frequently asked questions

Is a home multi gym worth it? For most people who want to train alone at home, yes. It gives guided, pin-loaded resistance for every major muscle group in one footprint, with no spotter needed. Research comparing machines and free weights found similar muscle growth from both. It is less suited to heavy squats and deadlifts, where a rack and barbell remain the better tool.

Can you build muscle on a multi gym? Yes. A 2023 meta-analysis of 13 studies found no difference in muscle growth between machine and free-weight training. What matters is training each muscle group regularly, taking sets close to failure and adding load over time.

Will a multi gym fit in a garage? Often, but measure three things first: the footprint plus room to move around it, the ceiling height at the machine's position, and the route in. Garage floors are usually concrete slabs, which suit a heavy machine, but a low ceiling or a beam can rule out pulldowns and pull-ups.

Do multi gyms need assembling? Yes. Multi gyms arrive in sections and need building. You can choose courier delivery and assemble it yourself, or have installation arranged on site, quoted separately before ordering. Ask when you enquire so the installation is booked alongside delivery.

Is a multi gym better than a cable machine? It depends on what you own already. A multi gym adds dedicated stations, such as pulldown, row, presses and leg work, on one frame. A dual adjustable pulley gives cable work only, in less space. If you already have a rack, bar and bench, a cable machine usually fills the gap better than a full multi gym.

Can I use a multi gym in a PT studio? You can, but check the machine's intended use class. ISO 20957-1 separates domestic equipment from equipment for clubs, studios and similar facilities, and HSE guidance expects work equipment to be inspected after installation. For several clients at once, a three-stack or commercial multi-station machine handles the load and keeps sessions moving.
